Embodied Equinox: a day of dance & rhythm

Tune into the energy of the fall equinox and honor your inner realm through rhythm and movement as we move towards the darker time of the year together.
Join Us: Sisters of the Drum, a ritualistic, all women’s drumming group, Benjamin Cheney, dancer and somatic facilitator and Hilary Lake, healing arts community minister and somatic movement educator in this journey.
There will be embodied guidance to support your personal inquiry and conscious exploration throughout our time together. No experience with dance, movement or ritual in any way is needed.
All abilities, genders, identities, ages and experiences are welcome. Children are welcome and parents are responsible to watch them at all times. Learn more here: FAQ about kids at the dance. Wear clothes that are comfortable to move in. Water and simple snacks will be provided.
Guidelines for our time together:
Come as you are, and accept others as they are.
Move in anyway that is safe for you and everyone else. Let your body guide you. Not moving is also fine.

Facilitator Bios:
Sisters of the Drum including Dede Alder, Tracy Barrilleaux, Jillian Votava, Katie Mae Scripps and Kellie Schneider are an all-female percussion ensemble devoted to awakening the sacred through rhythm, beauty, and embodied presence. Rooted in ancient lineages and fueled by creative fire, they lead immersive experiences that blend performance, ritual, ecstatic dance, and rites of passage. Each offering is a call to remember the muse within, to use rhythm as medicine, and beauty as a force for transformation and healing.
As the Greek poet Sappho once wrote, “what is beautiful is good, and who is good will soon also be beautiful”. The Sisters invoke this divine feminine principle, guiding others to reclaim their inner radiance, voice, and connection to Source through the beat of the drum.
Benjamin Cheney is a local Northern Michigan dancer, designer, and somatic practitioner. He is the founder and Artistic Director of the Croft Residency, which provides movement artists a refuge in nature and a platform to explore their creative process with the local community.
Hilary Lake is a healing arts community minister and somatic movement educator. Learn more about her here.
